Wild-Rider Half-Day Guided Tour #2

Printer-Friendly Format

Climbing the Poas Volcano

Do you have good street-riding skills? Are you up for a scenic, fairly easy, half-day tour?

Than this 4-5 hour ride is just right for you!

This ride takes you on some of the most scenic roads around San José. The final destination- the 2,704m high Poas volcano.

We'll leave San José over the famous Pan Americana Highway. Passing the town of Alajuela, we'll go onto smaller roads, that wind through large picturesque coffee and flower plantations.

You'll enjoy breathtaking views over the Valle Central (Central Valley) and San José as we climb the 2,704m high volcano. We have to leave our bikes behind and walk the final 500m to the edge of the majestic crater. The smell of sulfate-fumes escaping from the steaming crater permeates the air and, on clear days, you can see the green lagoon deep down within its center.

On the return ride, we'll stop at a small restaurant for coffee. Than back to San José, via another scenic route. There's no off-road stages in this tour, however, good street-riding skills are required. It is advisable to get an early start for this tour, because, at certain times during the year, increasing clouds in the afternoon, obscure the ride.
